Utility Worker I/ Meter Reader

Minimum Qualification HS diploma or GED with 1-3 years' related experience. Under the supervision of the Distribution Foreman, performs skilled technical activities for the operation and maintenance of the Leavenworth Waterworks Department. Under general supervision, reads, records and reports water meter readings; interacts with customers and addresses questions and resolves complaints, reports abnormal or suspicious meter conditions or usage patterns, makes field repairs to meters, and performs related duties as assigned.

Must have knowledge of machinery, equipment & tools needed to perform maintenance & repair work. Extensive physical activity & the ability to lift 50-100 lbs is required. Applicant must be able to tolerate changes in outside temperature from winter to summer, tolerate dust, pollen, wind and rain. Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, on-call; after hours and responding to emergency problems at any hour as needed. Applicant must have a valid Class C Driver's License; and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Class A KS license within 18 months of hire. Water Treatment Operator

The Leavenworth Waterworks is accepting applications for the position of Water Treatment Operator. Work involves responsibility for the correct operation of a 6 MGD lime softening water treatment plant. The position checks operating conditions, registers and interprets meter and gauge readings, performs basic water testing at various stages of plant processes, makes equipment and chemical feed adjustments on the tests and interpretations of the process. Position is subject to shift and weekend work, as assigned.

Applicants must possess a valid drivers' license and high school diploma or GED. A background check, drug screen, and physical capacity profile are required of the selected applicant before a final job offer. Salary range for entry level applicants is $30,000 - $32,500 plus excellent benefits. Experienced, license operators may be hired at a range up to $42,000 - $58,000 DOQ.
